Editor's note
While the commentariat get into a twist on whether the heat is coming out of the mining boom or not, one sector that is not booming is IT. The latest online advertised job vacancy numbers from the Department of Workplace Relations came out yesterday, and the ICT professionals category is at its lowest point in the report's history since 2006. The index for ICT Pros currently sits at 70 per cent of January 2006 activity and is even below the trough plowed during the heights of the GFC. Check out the article on IT job numbers for the graphs and tables. Also this week, I was part of a technology experiment that paired Windows 8 with a Retina MacBook Pro. When the verdict came in, it stated that Windows 8 is not ready for high DPI displays. Individual apps can be built to accommodate high DPI, but the OS itself is lacking in areas. Finally, the good people at RubyConf Australia had an interesting take on how to make a Call For Proposals for their upcoming conference. Have a good seven days, everyone. --Chris
